Product information "Carl Friedrich Benz"

Engineer and automotive pioneer. Built the first automobile with a four-stroke engine.

Born on 25 November 1844 in Mühlburg and died on 4 April 1929 in Ladenburg. After studying at the Polytechnicum in Karlsruhe, Benz founded his first company in Mannheim in 1871. In 1878/79, Benz developed a two-stroke engine and finally, in 1885, the first automobile with a four-stroke engine and electric ignition. Although steam-powered cars and steam buses already existed, this automobile was considered the first passenger car. This led to the issuance of the world's first driver's licence in 1888. However, the first test of the automobile's endurance was carried out by his wife Berta Benz, who also wrote a small chapter in automotive history with the first cross-country trip of more than 100 km.
